Every zone carries a risk

You're told which tier you're standing in, in colour, every time you cross a border. Nobody loses a bag to a rule they didn't know about.

Safe

You drop nothing. PvP can't even start here.

Capitals and starting zones

Dangerous

Die and you drop the gold you're carrying. Your gear is safe.

Most of the levelling world

Highly Dangerous

Die and you drop your gold and your gear, into a chest your killer can loot.

Stranglethorn, the Plaguelands, Burning Steppes, Winterspring, Silithus and more

The rest of the ruleset

Nothing here is a donor perk. There is no cash shop.

No factions

Horde and Alliance group, guild, trade and talk together. Everyone is flagged for PvP everywhere outside sanctuaries. The only side you have is the people you choose.

Level 60, no Death Knights

Vanilla-era progression, capped at 60. The endgame is other players.

PvP gear is crafted

Blacksmiths, leatherworkers and tailors make the Field Marshal's sets. No honour grind, no quartermaster.

Guilds hold territory

Capture points in the deadliest zones. Hold the majority and the zone is yours — you farm it harder, and outsiders pay you a toll on every coin they loot.

Death stings, then moves on

No corpse-run delay on PvP deaths. Losing your gear is punishment enough without also losing five minutes.

Full loot has guard rails

No drops between players sharing a connection, none from someone who just died, none if your killer outlevels you badly, and never in battlegrounds or dungeons.

Things that aren't finished yet

  • Crafted PvP gear covers one set per armour class, so a warlock currently wears the mage-flavoured cloth. Full class variants are coming.
  • Recipe tooltips still name the old item. You get the PvP piece; the label is stale until a client patch ships.
  • The Death Knight button still shows at character creation and errors if you click it.
  • Cross-faction works for grouping, chat, guilds, mail and auctions — but capital cities and guards are still faction-hostile.
